Note about this website: This is an ongoing project set up to teach about the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. It is not blindly critical of the United States government for political reasons, nor is it unapologetically supportive of everything done by Americans in power leading up to and during the attacks. What readers will find should be an objective account that remembers and honors the heroes of the day, identifies failures of as well as improvements to aviation security, and looks to the future as the United States enters a new era in homeland security.

On September 11th, 2001, life in the United States changed forever. It was on that date that 19 terrorists hijacked four domestic flights, and crashed them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania. Almost 3,000 Americans died, and set in motion a series of events that immediately and permanently changed US foreign diplomacy.

Flight Paths.gif
All four hijacked flights left from the East Coast bound for the West Coast. To accommodate the long flight, all the planes were fully loaded with flammable jet fuel.

Each flight path is color-coded. The lower number in each sequence represents where the plane took off, the higher number represents where it crashed.

Try to estimate where each hijacking took place:
1-2: Flight 11: Boston, Massachusetts to New York, New York
3-4: Flight 175: Boston, Massachusetts to New York, New York
5-6: Flight 77: Washington, DC and back to Washington, DC
7-8: Flight 93, Newark NJ to Shanksville, Pennsylvania
